It is our great pleasure to invite all delegates to the 25th National Medical Technology Congress to be hosted by the Society of Medical Laboratory Technologists of South Africa, Free State Branch, between 25 to 27 October 2019 at the Ilanga Estate in Bloemfontein.
Bloemfontein derives from Dutch which means "fountain of flowers" or "blooming fountain". Bloemfontein is the capital city of the Free State province of South Africa; and is the seventh largest city in South Africa.
The city of Bloemfontein hosts the Supreme Court of Appeal of South Africa, the Franklin Game Reserve, Naval Hill, the Maselspoort Resort and the Sand du Plessis Theatre. The city hosts numerous museums, including the National Women´s Monument, the Anglo-Boer War Museum, the National Museum, and the Oliewenhuis Art Museum
Bloemfontein also hosts sub-Saharan Africa's first digital planetarium, the Naval Hill Planetarium and Boyden Observatory, an astronomical research observatory erected by Harvard University.
Bloemfontein is popularly and poetically known as "the city of roses", for its abundance of these flowers. The annual Rose Festival draws visitors from far and wide – with the vivid colours and sweet scent of 15 000 roses enveloping the city, it’s certainly a spectacle worth seeing.
The city's Setswana name is Mangaung, meaning "place of cheetahs". While you’re here, do pay a visit to The Cheetah Experience, a cheetah breeding and conservation programme.
The Medical Laboratory Professionals Congress 2019 (MLP) will serve as a fundamental platform for all practitioners involved in the field of Clinical Laboratory Medicine, directly or as allied professionals in a support capacity. It will serve to share the most up-to-date developments in laboratory medicine, research results and accomplishments in their related disciplines.
This congress continues to be the premier event for all Medical Technologists; Technicians; Laboratory Assistants; Phlebotomists; Students; Scientists; Pathologists and other medical Laboratory personnel.
The Congress Organizing Committee is gearing up for an exciting and informative conference programme, offering plenary lectures, workshops and poster sessions. The scientific programme emphasizes the various aspects of biomedical technology, servicing both the generalists and the specialists while attempting to address most aspects of pathology, including the complicated issue of ethics.
For technologists/technicians who desire to maintain a fresh perspective in the field of Clinical Laboratory Science - while gaining an opportunity to network with peers and experts from near and far - this congress is expected to surpass all expectations.
As MLP, we will bring together the laboratory medicine fraternity from across South Africa, and internationally. Partnering with the members of commerce, we hope that you will take this opportunity to join us for an excellent academic programme while you enjoy visiting Bloemfontein in October 2019.
To quote C. Louis Leipoldt: “Dit is die maand Oktober, die mooiste, mooiste maand! Dan is die dag so helder, so groen is elke aand, So blou en sonder wolke die hemel heerlik bo...”.
